  • Pollination powerhouse

The western honey bee, scientifically known as Apis mellifera, derives its name from Latin origins. 'Apis', meaning 'bee', and 'mellifera', meaning 'honey-bearing' aptly describes the species' ability to produce and store honey, a characteristic that has made it one of the most significant and widespread honey bee species in the world. Its role in honey production and pollination underlines its essential contribution to ecosystems and agriculture worldwide.

The Western honey bee, armed with specially adapted hairs that form saddlebags on their hindlegs, are among the most efficient pollinators on Earth. They're responsible for flowering about three-quarters of the world's plants and for pollinating about a third of human food supply.

    Technical information

This coin has been ‘antiqued’ by hand to give it a unique finish conveying the surface abrasions of an ancient artefact. As a result of this treatment, the appearance of other coins in the limited mintage may vary.

    Presentation packaging

The coin is housed in a classic display case with a clear lid. Packaged in a themed shipper, the release is accompanied by a numbered certificate of authenticity.
