Among the animals that have left a remarkable mark on the history of prehistoric fauna is the Giant Deer (Megaloceros giganteus). Once inhabiting Europe and Asia, this giant deer was distinguished above all by the extraordinary size of its antlers. Germania Mint has dedicated one of the issues in its Megafauna collection to this remarkable species – 2026 Republic of Liberia Megafauna: Giant Deer 500 Dollars 1 oz Gold BU.
The artistic design of the issue was created by Natalia Danysz. 2026 Republic of Liberia Megafauna: Giant Deer 500 Dollars 1 oz Gold BU is a 1 oz gold coin with a strictly limited mintage of only 500 pieces. Each specimen is presented in a Safapack.
 
The obverse
The obverse features a monumental depiction of the Giant Deer set against a prehistoric landscape. The animal is captured in a dynamic pose that highlights its powerful build and distinctive antlers. The meticulously detailed surroundings allow the viewer to imagine the environment in which prehistoric animals once lived, while the composition emphasizes the imposing character of the featured species.
The reverse
The reverse presents a distinctive series motif created by Germania Mint. The skull of the extinct deer is combined with its expansive antlers and a hoofprint. Around it are tracks belonging to other species, creating a visual connection with subsequent Megafauna issues. The design is completed by the effigy of the Republic of Liberia and the Germania Mint mark.
