The Pegasus is one of the most recognizable creatures from Greek mythology. Often depicted as an immortal winged horse, Pegasus represents this union between earth and sky, gods and men; this divine creature has inspired many centuries of artists, poets, musicians, and writers.
The name Pegasus comes from the Greek word "pegae", which means "springs." The white flying horse was the son of Poseidon, born near the Ocean, and could create water springs wherever his hoof struck.
ABOUT SAINT HELENA AND THE EAST INDIA COMPANY
St Helena and The East India Company joined forces in the mid-17th Century when the Company used the island as a stopping point on voyages between India and the UK. The Company was granted a charter to govern St Helena in 1657. Over the next hundred years, officials occupied the island, where they enjoyed a relatively peaceful life in the tropics. Today The East India Company and St Helena work together to issue gold and silver coins under the authority of the government of St Helena, capturing stories in precious metal for future generations to treasure.
