  • In ancient Egypt, the sun god was worshipped for over 3000 years (more precisely since the 2nd dynasty). Over the centuries, all the great deities merged with him. Names like Atum-Re, Chnum-Re and of course Amun-Re can be found in numerous texts and documents.

    Re (also called Ra) was the first imperial god and most important god of ancient Egypt. He received the greatest veneration in the Old Kingdom. Huge pyramids were built in his honour. Even centuries later, the pharaohs built obelisks that reached up to the sky and reflected the sun's rays on their golden tops. Moreover, one of the five names of the king was "Son of Re".
